A BUSHFIRE which began at about 2:40pm today (Tuesday 10th September) has closed 1 of 2 Northbound lanes at Wyee Creek on the M1 Pacific Motorway (F3 Freeway). Firefighters closed this lane for their appliances to help them contain the fire.

Heavy smoke and the lane closure has caused queues of traffic peaking at 4km long earlier today. Delays peaked at up to 50 minutes for those who choose not to take the Doyalson exit.

RFS worked hard to backburn and stop the spread of fire.

Motorists could take the A43 Doyalson Exit to avoid the delays and take the Pacific Highway into Newcastle.

Heavy smoke is affecting visibility and those who suffered any breathing issues were advised to avoid the area.

Delays southbound were minimal or non-existent.

This fire was one of 60 bushfires burning around the state, with several major fires in Western Sydney.
