A 2 truck accident at Kariong on the M1 Pacific Motorway earlier closed lanes 1 and 2 of the northbound carriageway. A 59 year old was trapped in his truck for more than an hour on Thursday morning as his truck hit a rock wall.
Traffic was very heavy and a Careflight helicopter was arranged to land on Kariong Oval to convey injured man to Royal North Shore Hospital. He is suffering a serious wound to his head with leg and abdominal injuries.
A diesel spill also created issues for emergency services, the fire brigade worked on scene to clear the oil from the carriageway.
Around 1 hour later the diesel spill was cleaned, the trailer was moved into lane 1 and the RMS reopened lane 2.
A crane was ordered to remove the load from the truck however the crane company didn’t arrive in time, so the recovery operation has been postponed to 8pm tonight so that the recovery operation doesn’t have a major effect on peak hour traffic.
THE TRUCK HAS NOW BEEN CLEARED. Motorway conditions have returned to normal.
