A single vehicle travelling southbound at Jolls Bridge hit an embankment at 5am this morning.

A 31 year old man was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene whilst a 22 year old man was trapped inside the vehicle and also died before he could be released. These men are yet to be formally identified are believed to live in the Auburn area.

Three other men were treated by NSW Paramedics and Brisbane Water Police and Fire & Rescue NSW were also on scene of the accident. The incident is being investigated by the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU).

The incident caused major delays for up to 5 hours on the Pacific Motorway with 2 of 3 southbound lanes closed. An additional 30 minutes were added to travel time for motorists travelling southbound.

UPDATE: 27/12/2013 – The driver was arrested and charged with negligent driving occasioning death, and will appear at Burwood Local Court on Tuesday, 21 January.
