The Roads and Maritime Services is planning an upgrade of the M1 Pacific Motorway between the Kariong and Somersby Interchanges. This section of motorway is currently 2 lanes in each direction.
The M1 Pacific Motorway is a critical link in the National Land Transport Network and is part of the Sydney to Brisbane corridor, which is one of the busiest transport corridors in Australia.
The proposed upgrade aims to:
- Improve peak travel times on the motorway for motorists including road freight
- Improve traffic safety on the motorway and Kariong interchange ramps.
The proposed upgrade would involve:
- Widening eight kilometres of the motorway between the Kariong and Somersby interchanges to provide three lanes in each direction where traffic demand warrants
- Upgrading three of the four ramps at the Kariong (Central Coast Highway / Wisemans Ferry Road) interchange, including the northbound exit, northbound entry and southbound entry ramps.
This upgrade is in addition to the already planned upgrade between Tuggerah and Doyalson.
The roads and maritime services will provide more information and seek feedback on this proposal by mid this year.
